Julie Summers, M.A., LPC-S

Founder and Clinical Director

Clinical Background

Julie Summers brings more than three decades of deep clinical expertise to her work at Heritage Behavioral Health and Wellness, (formerly HBHC). After earning her Master of Arts in Psychology from Houston Baptist University, she began her private practice in 1987 — building her foundation working with high-risk teens and their families at a time when the field was still developing its approach to crisis intervention and family systems.

Today, Julie specializes in family mediation, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care, with particular experience supporting children navigating depression, anxiety, and ADHD, as well as adults working through the lasting effects of emotional, physical, physical, and sexual abuse. She also holds certification as a Trauma Professional (CCTP) and is trained in both EMDR and IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback — two powerful, evidence-informed modalities for processing difficult experiences at the neurological level.

For clients who wish to incorporate their faith into the therapeutic journey, Julie is equally at home working from a faith-based perspective, honoring the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.

Community & Crisis Work

Throughout her career, Julie has served on multiple Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) Teams, providing support to First Responders, major corporations, and Houston-area public high schools in the aftermath of crisis events. She has consulted with local schools and churches on navigating significant community losses and has served as a lead facilitator for Resiliency Training programs designed specifically for First Responders.

In 1996, Julie created Divorce Recovery: Rebuilding Your Life from the Inside Out — a program that launched a 23-year partnership with Second Baptist Church in Houston, journeying with thousands of individuals through the devastating effects of divorce.

Julie founded Heritage Behavioral Health Consultants, Inc. (now Heritage Behavioral Health and Wellness) in 1997 with a clear vision: to offer something more than textbook managed care. Today, Heritage has grown to include 27 exceptional clinicians — each bringing unique specialties, all united by shared values and guiding principles.

At Heritage, every client is treated as an individual with unique therapeutic needs. Treatment is customized to encompass the whole person, and the focus is always on finding root causes and pursuing lasting, meaningful change — not surface-level solutions.

Coaching & Speaking

As a personal and professional coach, Julie works alongside therapists, entrepreneurs, and executives who are ready to build extraordinary careers and lives. She has served on the boards of Crisis Intervention of Houston and the Baylor Bear Foundation, and is a sought-after speaker at local, state, and national levels.

Whether she is at the podium, in the consulting room, or leading a seminar for schools, churches, or businesses, Julie brings the same signature energy to everything she does — grounding her honest, practical approach in warmth, humor, and a genuine belief in the capacity of every person to grow.
