Victoria Gates, Graduate Student Intern

Victoria is currently completing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of St. Thomas and will graduate in August 2026. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston in 2017 and is currently supervised by Julie Summers, M.A., LPC-S. Before beginning her career in counseling, Victoria worked in the healthcare setting. Through her work in clinical research with individuals living with psychiatric disorders, she has gained valuable insight in the lived experiences of those navigating mental health challenges.

Victoria is passionate about working with adolescents, adults, and couples as they navigate life’s many challenges. Victoria holds a person-centered and child-centered foundation by creating a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is the strongest foundation for growth and enhancing self-awareness. Within this foundation, Victoria integrates principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients increase awareness, communicate more effectively, build effective coping skills, and take meaningful action aligned with their values. Her goal is to provide a supportive and collaborative environment where her clients feel empowered to navigate challenges and create lasting change.

On a personal note, Victoria is a native Houstonian and enjoys being active, reading, and enjoying her time with family and friends.
